recorded in haiku-pauwela, maui between 3rd febraury and 14th february 2016 anthony child aka surgeon presents the second volume of recordings of buchla music easel recorded in the jungle of maui. again we find child s in a more ambient guise and setting as the calm breath of the jungle sets a real time back-drop for his electronic explorations. there is no additional layering and all environmental sounds simply occurred throughout the improvisations. the range on display veers from melodic drones to sparkling arpeggios all revolving around a thick bed of (buchla) electronic and (environmental) acoustic interplay. nine personality type map hovers on a bed of syncopated rhythms whilst the nearby sonic mist of the forest seeths in and out of the frame whilst nightfall of diamonds provides a sonic analogy for the darkness and light contradiction that occurs only in such rich natural environments. the simultaneous acts of improvising, listening and creating provide a rich setting for the curious listener. another gem in a catalogue filled with gold.

the durian brothers consist of rising polyrhythmic talent dont dj, outernational adventurer harmonious thelonious and salon des amateurs resident marc matter. following their excellent outings on kontra-musik and diskant, the experimental trio build on a burgeoning relationship with emotional response by gathering together some of the best of their intense, globetrotting sounds. theres a great focus on cyclical rhythms, not least on the wonderful planete sauvage, while mille yeaux takes a more spacious, groovy route through wooden percussion and pinging organic tones. considering the scarcity of the original diskant pressings of these tracks, this collection couldnt come quickly enough.

landing straight after 415-pr10, public releases first in a loose series of san francisco-centric compilations, this three-track 12inch is a further exploration of the bay areas sounds and aesthetics, though here its explored via remixes produced by friends from abroad. the a-side is a complete overhaul, reimagining, and extension of anonstops seaside by thee loving hand, tim goldsworthys solo moniker of choice these days. the ex-dfa records co-founder and former member of unkle took the tunes balearic foundation and used it as a bed for what one might mistake as a lost arthur russell cut from the world of echo era. joel wells lent his airy, light, sweet vocals to the track, while darren morris added synth work to bolster tim’s usual production genius. it’s carefree and emotive, the aural equivalent of a big, toothy smile. the flip features a mix thats a whole helluva lot more intense and uptempo, though no less positive than its original. chidas remix of domination is squarer and housier than beziers piece, which was glitzy classic disco dunked in italo, but enough of it remains to be unmistakably a spinoff. fiery and propulsive in the way a gulfstream jet is, its a ball of thunder that will electrify any set, any dance floor.

the drum & bass heavyweight current value finishes up 2016 with his first solo release with the critical crew since his enormous “biocellulose” lp earlier in the year. this time notching up some extreme sounds for systems, volume 6 is another iron-clad addition to the series.

hauschka is a composer, songwriter and experimental musician who has brought an exciting new perspective to the prepared piano. the prepared piano – a technique for getting new sounds from the acoustic keyboard by resting pieces of paper or drumsticks on the strings of the instrument - has been used for centuries, but hauschka was unaware of the tradition when he began exploring ways to get new sounds out of his bechstein grand upright.

tanzflur-dresseur reinhard voigt ist mit neuer garnitur am start, ein tandem von zwei rohen, eigensinnigen technoschiebern, die nahtlos an das hochgelobte solo-release reisen & speisen (kompakt 338) und die zündende time is running split-ep mit michael mayer (kompakt 328) anschliessen. dazwischen konnte er sogar noch ein bisschen spielraum im geschäftigen kompakt-treiben herausschälen, um einen seltenen remix für el_txef_a auf dem aufstrebenden underground-label forbidden colours unterzubringen. nie um einen kopfnicker-dreh verlegen, fügt sich voigts jüngste veröffentlichung kontraste mit kraftvollem, minimalistischem techno gar kuschelig ins bisherige gesamtwerk: oszillierend zwischen reiner bewegung und monumental-abstraktem riff, verwebt the singing saw auf der a-seite mehrere angeraute synthesizer-motive um eine stoisch-ermächtigende bassdrum herum, während sich die b-seiten-aufnahme trust für die panorama-route entscheidet und seine täuschend simplen, doch ungeheuer effektiven lead-sounds zu einem überragenden schleifer mit seidenkante auftürmt. wie von reinhard voigt zu erwarten war, ist hier das ganze grösser als die summe seiner teile - ein weiterer beleg für seine meisterschaft in sachen kracher mit kniff.

don t confuse radio silence with inactivity. the music might not have been flowing, but the plans were at schrodinger s box hq. and finally, after a shedload of work, we re back to the music. anton maiovvi is well known in the right circles. this bristol born soundtrack virtuoso, italo disco savant and all round electronic guru has travelled labels far and wide with his smorgasbord sound. and that variety is plain to hear on will to powder. from the epic opener of -clocks-, maiovvi leads you through his labyrinthine hall of shapes and sounds. expect warming melodies, cold beats, shimmering synthwork, brazen experimentation, a decent dollop of slasher scores and a pinch new wave romance in this. undoubtedly his most diverse album to date.

following on from the very successful re-issue of the ‘little i ep” by fresh and low, foul & sunk records are proud to announce the release of fresh and low’s seminal deep house classic ‘wind on water’. originally released on chicago’s guidance imprint in 1996 this record put the glasgow producers firmly on the deep house map with it’s soulful blend of sparse beats, emotional pads and funk-laden fat bass-lines. re-mastered and re-cut with care and love, this release still sounds contemporary and yet retains that special vibe from the time it was created. a true house music classic.

these songs were made over the past 2 and a half years by uchi: luna (january 2016), was named after a talking cat. it s kind of a sad story. you will find some synth sounds, three different kick drums, and a couple hi-hats. it s kind of moody. you can take it as it is, or not. pride is poison (july 2014) ironically, it s titled after experiencing dosages of unhealthy relationships, though it might be the one people like the most. it s sad-ish, noisy, bouncie, and bassie? that about sums it up. inc (february 2016) is titled after the international noise conference, where it was recorded. actually it s a 3 part spliced zoom room recording of a 25min long improvisation, made in a punk bar. the argument here holds, is it really worth it to make perfect music? where is the concept of -live- in techno anyways? it doesn t matter. it s just a semi-distorted recording of a moment that meant nothing to almost no one, and yet it lives.
